BUILDING BLOCKS PRINTABLES

HOW TO MAKE BUILDING BLOCKS PRINTABLES

Usually LEGO or general building blocks come with a few visuals of what to make in the instructions manual. I realized that Nicky loves to recreate them but would end up making just the few examples that were suggested and then move on to another activity. These visual printables were my way of making more realistic visuals for her to recreate and mix and match the building blocks while extending her play time.

This at home activity for kids helps your little engineers create and play while learning problem solving skills as well as fine and gross motors skills.

MATERIALS:

  1. Building blocks or any sort of building materials like magnets, wooden blocks etc.

  2. Camera (I used my phone)

  3. Printer

  4. Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Make a few simple patterns out of the building blocks.

  2. Take a picture of each creation

  3. Print them. I added 4 pictures to one page so that the image wouldn’t be too large.

  4. Cut them out. You can laminate them or leave as is.

  5. Place them near your child’s building blocks to recreate.

Another idea is to use a polaroid camera that instantly prints out the picture to use as visual examples.

Building Blocks Printable Patterns

PYRAMID

A pyramid is a good starting point for younger kids who need some encouragement before they get into other patterns. You can make the pattern for the pyramid as big or small as you want. Start with a large base, using however many blocks, then add smaller layers as you move upward until you end up with a single block on top.

ROCKET

Kids of all ages tend to get excited when you suggest they build a rocket. For this pattern, build the body of the rocket, then add wings on either side and then add a triangle block on top.

NUMBERS

This is a great idea with a lot of potential. Create a printable block pattern for each number, from 0-9. You can also encourage them to put two numbers together to make double digits

LETTERS

Similar to the numbers, you can create a pattern for each letter in the alphabet.

POPSICLE

For this fun printable block pattern, start with a thin “popsicle stick” base, add a few rectangle pieces, then add an arched block on top. You can create several popsicles using different colors.
