AMAZON HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: FAMILY EDITION

Amazon Holiday Gift Guide by Age

Gifts 0-12 Months

0-12 months is actually a huge age gap in terms of developmental ability. Babies under 6 months will love high-contrast toys, mirrors, and anything they can feel or shake!

Babies 6-12 months are on the move and are understanding more complex concepts. Toys and games that allow them to use fine motor, gross motor, building, or play pretend skills are all solid choices. Some of my favorites for this age are Squigz, this barnyard animal set, and this shape sorter!

Gifts 1+

One-year-olds are endlessly curious! They love stories, music, construction, creation, and more. They just want to experiment with everything and experience all that the world has to offer.

Water tables are a great idea, as well as busy boards, art supplies, blocks, riding toys, sorting toys, and board books! (Books are great at any age, honestly!)

Gifts 2+

Toddlers are quickly gaining lots of language skills and will be testing their physical limits constantly. (At this age, they give you so many heart attacks, don’t they?)

The best gifts for 2-year-olds involve problem-solving, playing pretend, creating art, listening to music, or using their large and small muscle groups.

Alphabet toys, tool sets, wagons, cars, animals, kitchen sets, counting tools, lacing boards, sports equipment, instruments, and anything you can ride or climb on is perfect for this age group. This is also a great age to introduce a sensory table for endless hours of sensory play opportunities

P.S. You can find my DIY lacing boards here if you want a super personal recycled gift for the toddler in your life. I have a DIY sensory table guide too!

Gifts 3+

This is when your child’s attention span starts to expand and a lot of their creative and physical skills emerge! Here’s where they start enjoying playing with other kids, too.

Toys they can use together with other children are a great choice. Complex building toys, dress-up clothes, food sets, dollhouses, puzzles, play sand, ride-on toys, basic electronics, and climbing gyms would all be on a 3-year-old’s dream Christmas list.

Gifts 4+

4-year-olds are sponges for new information. Toys that help them with language, critical thinking, problem-solving, early mathematics, and fine/gross motor skills will be great for entertainment and cognitive development.

Some of my favorite toys on this gift look include bug-catching kits, makeup sets, drawing tables, Lego, puzzles, and beginner board games

Gifts 5-7

Kids this age are ready to express themselves; they know what they like, they know who they like, and they know what they’re good at!

Gifts for 5-7 year olds should empower their growth into an individual. Wallets with some cash can teach them about money management, craft kits can inspire creativity, plants can teach them responsibility, building kits can foster independence, and sports equipment can challenge their physical limits.

At this age, kids can also be trusted with video games and more advanced electronics like a Nintendo Switch or Echo Dot

Gifts For Big Kids (8-12)

At this age, kids are growing out of toys. They want items that will help them learn a skill, embody a passion, or express their individuality. I like to give things like journals, bead sets, instruments, maker kits, slime, telescopes, real tools, or remote controls

This age sometimes seems hard to buy for, but they’re really not when you understand what they want!

Gifts For Teens

Okay, I admit, teens are hard to shop for. The best thing to do is consider their likes and dislikes and get them something specific to their lifestyle.

However, if you’re unsure of their hobbies, go with something practical like a water bottle, portable charger, handy bag, bedside shelf, controller charging bay, or comfortable hoodie. Any teen would like these gifts!

Gifts That Grow With You

When you want to give your loved one something that they’ll really get use out of, timeless, grow-with-me gifts are the best. These are items parents can keep out for years and they’ll still get used.

Among some of the best and most popular are the Yoto Players and TonieBoxes! Both provide screen-free entertainment for all ages. (Though, the Yoto does have more longevity in terms of content for older kids.)

Other good picks would be fishing rods, cooking kits, Pikler triangle gyms, art tables, and tumbling mats
