BUBBLE PAINTING ART PRINTS

Any professional bubble blowers out there? My girls cannot see a straw and not blow bubbles! So if you have a rockstar bubble blower, put that to good use. Blowing bubbles is actually an incredible activity for improving oral motor skills and a great chest and lung exercise for kids. But even if you do it just for fun, it makes beautiful bubble prints. Look out for the little straw trick in the video tutorial, it will allow you to blow bubbles but not suck up any liquid from this at home activity for kids!

Materials For Bubble Painting:

  1. Reusable cup

  2. Water

  3. Dish Soap

  4. Food Coloring

  5. Straws

  6. Scissors

  7. Card Stock Paper

How To Bubble Paint:

  1. Fill the cup half way with water and add a bit of dish soap.

  2. Then add a few drops of food coloring. The more you add, the brighter the prints will be.

  3. Grab the straw and snip it where it bends. Make sure you try it out before handing it to your child. You should be able to blow out, but not suck up any liquid. Keep cutting until you achieve it.

  4. Place the straw inside the cup and blow bubbles.

  5. Remove the straw and smash the bubbles with the paper making awesome prints.

I love this method because it reduces the mess you’ll have to clean up afterward, but feel free to try another bubble painting technique like:

  • Use a sheet pan instead of a cup then cover the entire surface with bubbles. This method is great for making larger prints!

  • Fill several small pots with different colored bubbles. You can then smash all of the bubbles at the same time with the same paper, or do one pot at a time.

  • Replace the food coloring with 2-3 tablespoons of acrylic paint per 1/2 cup of water. Not only does this give you more color options, but the prints will be more vibrant. However, this technique does tend to create a bit more mess so plan ahead!

Helpful Tips For Bubble Painting With Kids

First and foremost, if you decide to use paint instead of food coloring, be sure to use non-toxic paint. Also, it’s important to instruct your kids to blow through the straw so that they don’t accidentally drink the bubble mixture. Even if it seems obvious, it’s a good idea to remind them. Cutting the straw as I explained above can help prevent your child from sipping through the straw, or you can poke a hole close to the top of the straw using a safety pin or pushpin. This makes it much harder to drink from the straw.

The more food coloring or paint you add to the soapy water, the brighter the colors will be. Make adjustments as need until you’re happy with the results. Also, if you’re not seeing any large bubbles as you blow into the mixture, try adding soap to the mixture , a little at a time.
