WORD FAMILY DIY

WORD FAMILY DIY | SPELLING GAME FOR KIDS

When Nicky started learning how to read, she grew a natural interest for it. Her amazing teachers worked with her a little extra to help with her reading learning process. Side note, is there anything better than teachers? I could write a whole post dedicated to the amazing job her teachers have done, we are so lucky to have them!

Nicky was incredibly excited with her progress on the ending in “-at” word family, that I made these fun leaning tools for her. This at home recycled activity is educational and so fun! Your little ones can change the missing letter to make new words from the same word family! This spelling activity is great for practicing reading, writing and of course spelling.

MATERIALS:

  1. Recycled paper rolls

  2. Markers

  3. Knife

  4. Craft sticks

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Use a marker to write “at”, “is”, “ad” on the paper roll. One word per roll.

  2. Cut out a square window using the knife. Also make a cut right above and below the square cutout to insert the craft stick with letters

  3. Write letters going down the crafts sticks. You can use both front and back sides of the sticks for more word options!

  4. Insert the popsicle sticks through the slots and slide it to make new words.

Not that I have to highlight it, but educational, fun AND recycled DIY? Sign me and my little one’s up!
