BANANA CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM

The healthy homemade alternative to delicious and creamy "ice cream." Quotations on ice cream because there isn’t actually any cream in it at all. Frozen bananas make the most perfect ice cream all on its own. That delicious creamy flavor you love about ice cream, you get from blending a few frozen bananas together. If you’ve never tried it, its a must! And kids have no idea its just bananas.

YOU’LL NEED:

  1. 2 Frozen bananas (once they are over ripe, peel and slice them, then place on a baking sheet, for faster freezing, or in a freezer grade bag or container and freeze at least over night).

  2. 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  3. 1 tbsp peanut butter (or almond butter)

  4. 1 tsp coconut sugar (not necessary if the bananas are super ripe)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Place the frozen bananas in a food processor*, blender, or ice cream maker and mix until you achieve a smooth and creamy texture.

  2. Add the cocoa powder, peanut butter and coconut sugar. Mix.

  3. Serve and enjoy! I added some banana chips for added texture at the end, but chocolate chips would be tasty too. If you’re dying for some extra sweetness, you can add maple syrup, honey, vanilla extract, or a medjool date.

If you’re using a food processor, you might need to add a splash of milk (or a milk alternative like almond milk to keep it dairy-free) to help everything blend together and achieve the texture of soft serve ice cream.

PEPPERMINT EXTRACT

Adding just 2-3 drops of peppermint extract instantly transforms this recipe into mint chocolate banana ice cream. It’s a simple way to switch up this recipe without adding any sugar or fat. Yum!

BERRIES

Fresh or frozen berries like strawberries, raspberries, and cherries make great additions to banana chocolate ice cream. You can either blend them together with your bananas or top your bowl of chocolate banana nice cream with a few berries at the end.

SPRINKLES

Sprinkles are a fun and easy way to add a bit of crunch and a fun splash of color. Let your child pick out some sprinkles and let them (carefully) add them to their bowl of ice cream. You can even call it a fine motor skills exercise!

CHOPPED NUTS

Adding chopped nuts is another great way to add some crunch, as well as extra nutrition. Try topping your bowl of banana chocolate ice cream with chopped pecans, walnuts, or peanuts.
