25 MOM HACKS: PRACTICAL TIPS FOR EVERY STAGE OF MOTHERHOOD
Mom hacks, whether for newborns and toddlers or for travel and busy days, have been lifesavers for me. It’s no secret that motherhood often comes with a constant stream of small, everyday challenges that add up quickly. For example, we try to stay organized at home, simplify days on the go, and find little ways to make daily routines smoother and more exciting.
But without the right system in place, even the smallest tasks can begin to feel overwhelming. I’ve built this big, beautiful Mothercould community on one simple thing: accomplishments are empowering. And, over time, I’ve quickly realized that so many moms feel the same way. We’re all navigating similar challenges, just trying to find what works for our families and us.
That’s exactly why I truly love finding—and sharing—practical, realistic mom hacks. They’re not just different ways of doing things; they’re powerful tools for making daily life smoother and more manageable. In this post, I’m sharing my favorite mom hacks for newborns, travel, cleaning, bath time, busy days, and so much more.
Because when you have the tools, tips, and strategies, you go into every day more confident, prepared, and in control.
What Are Mom Hacks?
Mom hacks are clever techniques designed to make parenting feel more manageable. Whether that’s by saving money or saving your sanity, they’re made to make daily life feel a little easier. And I know what you may be thinking… How easier?
As moms, we’re constantly navigating decision fatigue: the idea that as the day goes on, we sort of lose the ability to make reasonable decisions. Our brains can only handle so much! Cue: telling your kids they can eat No-Bake Peanut Butter Cups too close to bedtime… (may or may not be speaking from experience.)
Even with partners or family members who help, we’re still constantly planning, analyzing, and making decisions. It’s just what we do! So, mom hacks help make those daily decisions easier. You don’t have to Google “How to Travel with Kids” the night before a trip, or “Quick, Easy Last-Minute Dinners” at 5 p.m. You’ll already have a few tricks up your sleeve so you’re not figuring things out as they happen.
I’ve been there, and that’s exactly why I’ve rounded up my favorite mom hacks for every unique situation motherhood brings us:
Mom Hacks for Newborns
Create a Portable Changing Station
Having a portable changing station makes diaper changes so much easier—especially when you’re away from home. Most are surprisingly spacious, allowing you to pack diapers, creams, wipes, and even toys without needing multiple bags!
This 3-in-1 Portable Changing Pad was a total lifesaver for me. A storage bag, diaper pad, and wipes holder all in one? It’s truly the best. Not only can it hold essentials, but it’s also incredibly easy to fold up, stash in a bag, and bring with you everywhere. It saves time and minimizes stress.
Prep Feeding Supplies in Advance
If there’s one thing about newborns, it’s that they’re not waiting when they’re hungry. And if you’ve ever tried to prepare your “feeding station” with a baby crying in the background, you know how much those precious seconds matter! It can become overwhelming quickly.
Whether you’re bottle-feeding or pumping, prepping everything ahead of time makes all the difference. Keep things like pre-measured formula, clean bottles, or organized pump parts on an easily accessible counter. A few of my favorites are this Baby Brezza Bottle Sterilizer, this Hands-Free Pumping Bra, and the Munchkin High-Capacity Dishwasher Basket. They truly make feedings smoother and less overwhelming—especially during late nights!
Use a Sound Machine for Calm Environments
A sound machine can be a game-changer for helping babies settle in and fall asleep. In fact, research shows that white noise is an increasingly useful nonpharmacological intervention for promoting relaxation in newborns. Not only does it block out loud noises, but it also mimics the sounds they heard while in your tummy. How fascinating!
The Hatch Baby Sound Machine is fantastic to keep in your baby’s room or by the crib. It pairs calming lights with soothing music, promoting a better sleep schedule and encouraging independence. Another lifesaver? The Hatch Go, a portablesound machine with 10 soothing sounds and a ring to clip onto bags, pants, or purses. Both tools are incredibly helpful, whether you’re navigating naptime or bedtime.
Have a Grab-and-Go Diaper Bag Ready
You never know when you’ll need a grab-and-go diaper bag—especially if you have multiple kids. Maybe soccer practice gets out early, or maybe they sprang a last-minute stop on the way home. In those moments, a fully-stocked diaper bag can make leaving the house feel SO much easier.
Make sure to include all your essentials, like wipes, a change of clothes, feeding supplies, and a few extras for “just-in-case” moments. When you already have everything in one place, you can confidently head out the door without second-guessing.
Mom Hacks for Traveling
Schedule Driving Time
If you’re traveling long distances, the best advice I can offer is to schedule driving time strategically. This is especially important if you’re traveling with littles who still have scheduled naptimes! Ideally, drive either early in the morning or mid-afternoon, when kids are sleepier and more likely to nap.
When you know the right time to get on the road, you can reduce those “Mom, are we there yet?” moments every 30 minutes! And since studies recommend taking driving breaks every 2–3 hours during day trips, chances are your kids will wake up right when it’s time to get out and stretch their legs. That’s what a little planning can do!
Board Planes Last
If you’re traveling with kids under two, or any kids who may have a case of extra wiggles that day, board the plane last. They’ll enjoy movement for as long as possible—and planes aren’t the most spacious environments! Plus, with so many people in such a small area, it can get hot and stuffy quickly.
Let your kids get their wiggles out and THEN board the plane. While it may seem like a small adjustment, it can seriously make a noticeable difference in keeping everyone calmer and more comfortable throughout the flight. And as a bonus tip, bring an FAA-approved car seat! It gives kids a familiar, secure feeling that will remind them of home.
Make a Travel Essentials Bag
I just posted about creating a travel essentials bag and how useful this can be when traveling with children! Just grab a Kid’s Travel Organizer and store all of your child’s must-have items inside. Think: a Kid’s Snack Box Container, travel-friendly sensory toys, a pair of Bluetooth headphones, and a few arts and crafts.
When you create a travel bag specifically for your child, you don’t have to shuffle through suitcases or purses to find what they need. Everything is conveniently accessible and organized, allowing you to grab what you need stress-free.
Pack Kid-Friendly Snack Boxes
Whether you’re flying or road tripping, things from convenience stores can be significantly more expensive. Especially if you’re traveling through busier, more populated areas! So if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to pack snacks before you head out the door.
And with my Large Kids Snack Box Containers, pre-planning snacks feels like a breeze. Featuring 18 adjustable compartments, 100 dissolvable labels, anda Parent Tested, Parent Approved (PTPA) seal, this container is perfect for on-the-go use. You can curate a blend of nutrient-dense, kid-friendly snacks that you know your kids will actually enjoy.
If you need a little inspiration, read my post, “Travel Snack Ideas for Kids!” You may also appreciate my “How to Make Boxed Cookies Better” guide, because sometimes, you want to toss in a sweet treat without having to think about baking.
Use a Kids Travel Organizer
If you don’t have this Kids Travel Organizer, get ready for traveling with children to become a whole lot easier. This bag features 7 compartments to maximize storage for snacks, toys, books, and any travel essentials. And becausekids aren’t the most cautious little travelers, it’s also durable, water-resistant, and lightweight! No rips, snags, or mysterious stains.
If you want to see how it works in action, just check out my Instagram video! As a mom of 3, I know how important realistic travel solutions are—and I designed this organizer with that in mind. No digging through bags or shuffling through carry-ons; everything is clear, contained, and kid-accessible.
Mom Hacks for the Beach
Use SPF Brushes for Easy Application
Regardless of your kid’s age, asking them to put on sunscreen can feel like a task—and don’t even get me started on reapplication! They think they’re one-and-done for the whole day, so the idea of putting on more every hour? Not happening. Add sticky, slippery bottles to the mix, and it feels like total chaos.
That’s where the Mothercould Premium Sunscreen Brush Set comes in. Each set comes with 1 small brush, 1 large brush, 2 protective caps, 1 silicone cleaning mat, and a travel pouch. When you give kids a soft, fluffy tool to put sunscreen on with, it becomes exciting—not extra work. Just rinse, lather, swirl, and air dry, and they’ll be as good as new for the next beach day.
Pack a Sand-Free Pouch
As much as I love the beach, the sand can feel like an enemy. No matter how much you rinse off toys, little toes, or water bottles, sand still finds its way into your bag, car, and, somehow, your suitcase! (Seriously, how does that happen?!) Keeping a sand-free pouch on hand was a complete sanity saver.
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; it can be as simple as storing phones in Ziplock bags. Or, for bigger items, keep them in a waterproof, tip-proof clear bag. Everything’s visible and easily accessible; you just don’t have to worry about sand slipping through the cracks. And then for those moments where you know sand is unavoidable—like from packing beach toys or flip flops—a mesh beach tote is my go-to. Easy to hose down without a second thought.
Use a Fitted Sheet for a Sand Barrier
Babies can be especially sensitive to sand—sounds a little dramatic, but it’s true! It’s gritty and rough, it can be hot, and it can get stuck in their eyes, under the nails, or in between skin folds. That doesn’t mean you should avoid the beach with little ones; it just means you need to plan wisely!
And here’s an easy, budget-friendly hack: lay down a fitted sheet and weigh down the corners with bags or toys. It creates a little baby-friendly sand-free zone! They can still play and enjoy all the exciting sights and sounds, but they can also enjoy the sand on their terms.
And if you have older children who also appreciate sand-free spaces? It’s always a good idea to pack this sand-proof and water-proof beach mat. It folds up super compactly, making it easy to travel with!
Bring Baby Powder to Remove Sand
Back to me complaining about how sneaky sand is! But I feel like this is something all moms struggle with at the beach. There are plenty of tools to easily remove sand from both you and your children. Example number one, this Triangle Sand Remover Eraser Wipe! It’s infused with a gentle powder to remove moisture and sand without irritating the skin.
But if you’re trying to be as resourceful as possible, I get it. Here’s another secret hack: bring baby powder in your beach bag. It sounds crazy, I know! But a small sprinkle of baby powder, straight onto sandy skin, absorbs moisture basically instantly. Easy, simple, and meltdown-free.
Mom Hacks for Cleaning
Set a Daily 30-Minute Reset Timer
Busy days, multiple kids, balancing work, making time for yourself—it all adds up. And, naturally, so does the mess! We’ve all been there, sliding toys to the corner and stacking dishes in the sink. But there is a way to simplify your cleaning routine: set aside just 30 minutes a day.
When you dedicate 30 minutes to cleaning up little messes, you won’thave to spend time (and by time, I mean hours) cleaning up bigger messes later on. It sounds too easy, and that’s because it is! Do it while the baby sleeps, the kids are in class, or dinner is in the Crock-Pot. After those 30 minutes, save any extra tidying for tomorrow. It’s an easy way to reduce your mental load and make daily cleaning feel realistic—not overwhelming.
Involve Kids in Simple Clean Up
I posted “How to Teach Kids to Clean Up After Themselves” a while ago, and I’m still using those same tricks. It goes without saying that having a couple of extra hands can make the routine even more efficient. But aside from that, it also fosters independence, responsibility, and discipline!
Over time, children begin to realize that clean-up time is a necessary part of their daily routine—not just something they’re asked to do. And they’ll actually carry and build on those habits as they grow! To make it a little more enjoyable, set up your Toniebox, dance around, and maybe even try a few of these cleanup games for kids. Turn it into a bonding experience!

Mom Hacks for Bath Time
Make Colored Bath Water
Every kid is different. Some love bubble baths and treat them as an exciting part of their daily routine! Others… not so much. Regardless, there are a few ways to make bathtime feel more like an enjoyable sensory experience!
First things first: Color bath water naturally. You can use fruits and veggies, natural food coloring (like beet or turmeric powder), or even herbal teas! Step number two: Make your own bubble bath. It sounds time-consuming, but it only requires a handful of steps and ingredients. Kids are notorious for dunking their heads underwater and bringing the bubbles to their faces. This step just offers a little extra peace of mind!
And finally, incorporate bath-friendly toys. Some of my favorites include suction cup toys, a light-up whale sprinkler, a Little Mermaid bath set, or CoComelon floating water toys. Not only is play beneficial for developing so many important skills, but it also makes bathtime easier—for everyone!
Turn Bath Time into a Calming Routine
As adults, we tend to appreciate bathtime for its calming, soothing effects. Nothing’s better than lighting a few candles, adding in a relaxing bubble bath, and taking a few deep breaths. And here’s the thing: you can create that same feeling for kids! Find their favorite parts of bathtime and incorporate them as much as you can.
For example, toss in some bath color fizzies, turn on their favorite music, and let them enjoy themselves! Afterward, wrap them in a fun hooded towel and help them put on lotion before getting into pajamas. Position it as a mini self-care routine rather than a rushed part of the day.
Lay Out Pajamas Before Starting
Unless your kids are old enough to pick out their own pajamas, doing this step before bathtime is life-changing. It helps create a smooth transition from bathtime to bedtime, avoiding any last-minute stress. Plus, when you don’t feel like you have to rush to pick something out, you can match the pajamas to factors like room temperature and your child’s needs.
Another pro tip? Ask them to help you pick out their pajamas. This encourages autonomy, making them feel like they have a say in the routine. And, naturally, this makes bathtime feel more like a simple part of their day rather than another mundane chore!
Mom Hacks for Busy Days
Use a Toy Rotation System
I had such a good conversation with Hila Bahari, the face of Mamaguide, about toy rotation systems. You can actually watch that conversation HERE! We sat down and talked about one of the main reasons I wrote my book, Playful by Design: making play feel more intentional.
I constantly get messages from people telling me how they appreciate that I play with my kids all day. And it makes sense! I’m constantly sharing sensory play recipes and demonstrating tutorials. However, I actually don’t play with my kids all day. Most of the time, they play independently! And that’s because I’ve intentionally created kid-friendly spaces and toy rotation systems that encourage independence, creativity, and self-direction.
At its core, toy rotation systems are about looking at everything you have and putting away half of it. Kids don’t need 101 items to entertain themselves with! And with Playful by Design, I wanted to create a resource that inspires you to equip your children with the tools to unlock their creativity through kid-directed, kid-executed, and kid-enriching play. And you don’t need Pinterest-perfect spaces or an excess of toys to do it.
You can learn even more about toy rotation systems in my podcast episode with Whitney Port!
Prepare Meals and Snacks in Advance
Snack time and meal time can quickly become some of the most overwhelming moments of the day. You want nutritious, kid-friendly options, but you also want to keep it exciting, fresh, and enjoyable for everyone. There’s a simple way to do this! Just set aside a little time each week to plan meals.
This isn’t meal-planning in the traditional sense of the word—you’re not mapping out EVERY single meal or following a strict schedule. Instead, think of it as a flexible system: prepping a few snack boxes, keeping staples on hand, and having a general idea of what the week might look like.
For example, maybe your Tuesday will be jam-packed with sports games and after-school events. In that case, plan to make one of the easy Crock-Pot recipes! Or, if you have a little downtime on Friday, try to incorporate some meals that kids can help cook. Tailor it to your schedule and plan in advance, and it becomes a stress-free process.
Lower the Bar (and Give Yourself Grace)
If there’s one thing we forget to do as moms, it’s give ourselves grace. We’re balancing so many things at once, and we don’t often leave any time for ourselves. And then we’re left feeling guilty because we didn’t have time to vacuum, or we picked up takeout for dinner.
Let me give you a little mom-to-mom advice: lower the bar some days. Yes, really! We can’t be 100% all day, every day—it isn’t fair for us (or our mental health!). Remind yourself that being a mom is a full-time job, and it’s one that deserves a little self-compassion.
Time Your Chores
This hack is gonna sound crazy, but hear me out. Whenever you’re trying to work up the courage to begin a more challenging task, set a timer. Now here’s the twist: you’re not giving yourself a time limit. Instead, you’re seeing how long each task realistically takes you.
And this is why it works so well: it’s usually never as long as you expect it to be. You may set aside an hour to clean the bathrooms, but it actually just takes you 35 minutes. It makes tackling those hard-to-complete chores feel so much easier.
Mom Hacks for Sick Kids
Create a “Sick Day Essentials” Kit
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m ALWAYS looking for ways to kick a cold. Warm water with salt? Check. Cool mist vaporizer? Got it. We have the tools, we just have to… search for them. But there’s a way to make even that part of the process easier.
Grab a basket and make a “sick day essential kit.” Include things like thermometers, electrolyte drinks, medications, tissues, extra pajamas, and even a cozy blanket. When you have everything in one place, planning for unexpected sniffles or upset stomachs can feel totally stress-free.
Use a Towel Layer System for Bed Changes
Middle-of-the-night messes are never fun—especially when you’re already running on little sleep. A simple towel layer system can make a world of difference for last-minute cleanups. Start with a mattress protector, layer a fitted sheet, place a towel, add another fitted sheet, and then another soft towel.
This way, if something happens, you can quickly remove the top layer and get your child back to bed without having to fully remake everything. It’s one of those small, practical hacks that matter when you need it most.
Mom hacks make everyday routines easier, stress-free, and more manageable.
We’re always on the go as parents—whether mentally or physically. We’re planning ahead, trying to keep everyone happy, and attempting to prioritize ourselves. What felt impossible before can actually feel attainable with practical mom hacks! These aren’t “shortcuts,” they’re more efficient ways to do things you were already doing—just a little bit easier.
This community is so important to me, which is why I’ve created the Mothercould blog and the Mothercould In Your Pocket resource! When you feel like you have true support, the little things don’t feel so overwhelming anymore.
I’ll see you all in my next post! Let me know on my Instagram which hacks you incorporate or which you’ll be adding to your routine from now on!
